Transfer Admission
Transfer Assistance Program (TAP)
What is the Transfer Assistance Program?
TAP helps you plan your course selection at a participating college or
university, outlining the pre-engineering courses you need to take at your
participating school during your first two years of college. Missouri
S&T transfer staff in the Admissions office will work with you every
step of the way so you transfer to Missouri S&T without losing credits
or taking unnecessary courses. Our staff also provides information on important
deadlines for admission, scholarship and pre-registration.
How does TAP work?
When you enroll in TAP, you become a part of our prospective transfer student
database. Our Admissions transfer advisors visit campuses in Missouri and
contiguous states and are available by phone or email for consultation
concerning your transfer issues. TAP provides academic program counseling and
career counseling, as well as access to Model Programs. A Model Program is a
semester-by-semester course of study that has been developed in conjunction
with participating colleges and universities. If you choose a college that does
not have a formal Model Program, or does not offer one in your major, our
admissions staff will still provide personalized counseling to help you outline
your curriculum and ensure your smooth transition to Missouri S&T.
What are the advantages of TAP?
By enrolling in TAP, you will be informed about the admissions process,
scholarship deadlines, visits to your campus by Admissions staff, faculty and
advisors on your campus who are familiar with the TAP program and much more.
Campus visit opportunities for transfer students, pre-registration process and
a host of other useful information is provided to you periodically by mail,
phone, and email.
TAP provides academic program counseling and career counseling. When you
enroll in TAP, you will be assigned a Missouri S&T student ID number,
which assures your catalog year. A file will be created for you and you will be
entitled to personalized advising. An admissions application, scholarship and
registration information are mailed to you the semester prior to your
transfer.
How will you know if you're on the right track with your courses at your
participating school?
You'll know you're on the right track because a coordinator from Missouri
S&T's Admissions and Student Financial Aid Office will visit model
program colleges to advise you. This coordinator will continue to work with you
during your first semester at Missouri S&T and may continue to assist
you until you graduate.
What are your chances for success when you transfer?
TAP students generally do well academically. More than 87 percent of our
transfer students earn a degree. 50 percent of Missouri
S&T engineering graduates are transfer students.
Every effort is made to help you adapt to the campus. Orientation and a
Transfer Assistance Program are designed specifically for transfer students.
They allow you to talk with students who have made the transition to Missouri
S&T and to answer your questions or address any concerns you might
have about transferring.
