Freshman Admission
Non-Traditional Students

Missouri S&T welcomes students from many backgrounds each semester and we have a variety of resources to help them make a successful transition.

Homeschool Students

Missouri S&T has a long history of admitting homeschooled students, and they have been extremely successful and vibrant members of our community. Homeschooled students are considered in the same context as traditional first-time freshmen and are held to the same Admission Requirements. We do encourage homeschooled students to submit an optional personal statement or resume with their application detailing extracurricular activities, summer programs they may have participated in, evidence of an entrepreneurial spirit and anything else they would like us to consider with their application.

[admission requirements]

In lieu of an official transcript from a high school, students are required to submit one of the following in addition to any college-level transcripts:

  • A GED High School Equivalency Diploma test score
  • An official transcript from a home-school credentialling organization
  • A certified list of high-school level courses completed

Community Access Admissions

The Community Access Program is designed for students not interested in actively pursuing a degree. Students may register for a maximum of seven hours during the fall and winter/spring semester, and three hours during the summer. Applications for the Community Access program are available from the Office of Admissions during regular business hours.

  1. Community Access courses are for credit and will appear on a transcript and can be transferred, if acceptable, to the receiving institution.
  2. Students must be high school graduates or have obtained a GED.
  3. Students on dismissal status from any institution, including Missouri S&T, are not eligible to register until one year has elapsed.
  4. Students may not transfer into a degree granting division of the university during the term in which they are enrolled in Community Access.
  5. There is no application fee for Community Access. Transfer into a degree granting division of the university requires completion of the regular application process and submission of the application fee.
  6. Registration is open on a space-available basis.
  7. Students enrolling in Community Access will not be eligible for financial aid, since the program is non-degree in orientation.
  8. The Office of Admissions will advise students on Community Access courses and assist with registration. The Registrar's Office will allow students to register at predetermined times.
  9. No graduate credit is available through Community Access.
  10. Fees for students enrolling through Community Access are the same as regular admitted students unless the Community Access student is enrolled in an evening course. In that case, the student may go to the Cashier's Office to request that the Health Service fees and the Activity Facility fees are waived. All fees are payable by appropriate deadlines.
  11. International students will be required to provide proof of a TOEFL of 550 or better.
  12. Transcripts are not required. However, if a student wishes to take an upper level class, an unofficial transcript or work experience that prepares the student for the class may need to reviewed.
  13. All students wishing to enroll in a mathematics course must present a Missouri S&T Math Placement Test score before enrolling.
